Photography Competition Winners Presented With Prizes

The two winners of Sewerby Hall and Gardens’ 2012 Coast, Sea and Sky amateur photography competitions were presented with their prizes by Councillors Chad Chadwick and Margaret Chadwick recently. Matthew Perks from Hornsea was the senior category winner with his photograph of Hornsea Beach and twelve-year-old Bailey Emmerson from Hull won the junior category with his shot of Spurn Point. Both winners received a professionally mounted print from Gallerino Studios, Bridlington, together with a 2013-14 family season pass and an Adventurer’s Guide to Sewerby Hall and Gardens. DRIFFIELD : Art Club To Exhibit At Harvest Food Festival

Driffield Art Club is pleased to announce its forthcoming exhibition at the Harvest Food Festival which will take place at Driffield Showground on Saturday, 8 September between 9.30am and 4.30pm. This is the first time that Driffield Art Club has exhibited at this event, which promises to be an excellent day out for people of all ages and interests. The art exhibition is part of a host of attractions, including food stalls, cookery demonstrations and children’s entertainment. Entry to the showground and art exhibition is free. The exhibition will be in the Clock Tower rooms on the showground where there will be a selection of original work plus prints in variety of media by both professional and amateur artists from the region. The body of work will be for sale and can be collected on the day. This is a unique opportunity for people to see what the art club has to offer, and Driffield Art Club members will be there to offer advice if anyone is interested in joining this popular club, which currently has 140 members. EAST YORKSHIRE : Residents Urged To Support Alzheimer’s Society

Alzheimer’s Society is calling on residents to sign up for the popular annual fundraising event, East Riding Memory Walk 2012, on Sunday, 2 September at 11am, which will take place in the Swinton Room at Sewerby Hall and Gardens, Sewerby. There will be a short walk around Sewerby Hall and Gardens and a longer walk along the cliff tops to Bridlington and back for those feeling a bit more energetic. The walk is being supported by East Riding of Yorkshire Council and entry to Sewerby Hall and Gardens is free to all registered walkers. There is also a 10 per cent discount at the Clock Tower Tea Rooms for all those taking part. There will be music on the day from Huddersfield Wind Band and Friends of American Old Time Music and Dance. Dogs are welcome but must be kept on a lead at all times. The money raised will help support people with dementia and their carers in our area. This year’s Memory Walk is taking place in partnership with Bupa Care Homes. Budding explorers and adventurers can now pick up a new activity booklet containing tons of exciting things to do at Sewerby Hall and Gardens. This brand new booklet contains puzzles, quizzes and fantastic facts together with numerous hands-on activities to carry out around the estate which can then be followed up at home, school or on the internet. The zoo, the gardens, the Clock Tower Tea Rooms and the hall are all featured in the guide. The booklet also contains various stickers that children can use in the book itself or to decorate other places along with a 10 per cent discount voucher for use in the Tea Rooms. Existing volunteers are an important part of Sewerby Hall and Gardens and Flamborough Lighthouse and we are now looking to add more to our valued team. There are many exciting developments taking place at Sewerby Hall and Gardens over the next few years and now is your chance to have a hand in them. Volunteering is rewarding and is a wonderful way to meet new people and learn different skills and experiences. We also aim to make sure it will be one of the most enjoyable things you will ever do. To award recognition for their time and effort, we are offering volunteers a 10 per cent discount at the Clock Tower Tea Rooms and the hall gift shop as well as membership of the Yorkshire and Humber Museum Volunteer Pass scheme. Leaders Of Council Visit Sewerby Hall Ahead Of Easter Spectacular

Councillor Stephen Parnaby OBE, leader of East Riding of Yorkshire Council, visited staff at Sewerby Hall and Gardens and was shown around the stately home and its picturesque grounds ahead of a busy Easter weekend. The venue enjoyed a busy open weekend last month, which included the Sewerby Mile being run by 216 participants in aid of Sport Relief, and officially opened to the public for the new season last weekend. Councillor Parnaby said: “It was great to get up to Sewerby, speak to the staff and look around the hall and gardens ahead of what we hope will be another excellent year for the venue. “Sewerby Hall and Gardens is one of our most well-visited tourist attractions and has something for all the family, including the newly refurbished playground, the popular children’s zoo, refreshments available from the Clock Tower Tea Rooms and a packed events programme.” Admission to the estate at this time of year costs £4.70 for adults, £3.90 for the over-60s, £2.70 for children (3-15 yrs) and £14 for a family ticket, admitting two adults and up to two children.
