Able UK’s Marine Energy Park : Offshore Wind Connections

Potential supply chain opportunities at Able UK’s Marine Energy Park (AMEP) and the fallout from the introduction of the Energy Bill are on the agenda at a free breakfast briefing this week. The Team Humber Marine Alliance (THMA) hosted ‘Offshore Wind Connections’, which is being supported by EEF the manufacturers’ organisation, will feature David Shepherd, Able UK’s group business executive. There are a limited number of delegate spaces available at the briefing this Wednesday, April 24, at Forest Pines, Brigg, which will also includes senior industry figures from David Brown Wind Energy, Strabag Offshore and the Department for Energy & Climate Change (DECC). Mr Shepherd will detail the proposed 320ha Able UK’s Marine Energy Park development on the south bank of the Humber, just north of Immingham, the anticipated economic growth it will create for the Humber region and outline how local companies can be involved. “The offshore wind industry is tonnage light and land hungry – something most ports don’t know how to deal with or don’t want to,” said Mr Shepherd. ”AMEP provides a unique UK solution meaning the Humber is now poised to take advantage of a once in a lifetime opportunity.” The project is at a critical…

Get Ready for the Green Deal says MP

Graham-Stuart

Graham Stuart, the MP for Beverley and Holderness is encouraging homeowners to get ready for the ‘Green Deal’, a flagship government initiative to increase the energy efficiency of properties. Graham said, “If you are considering updating your heating system or improving your home insulation then take a look to see if you can benefit from The Green Deal. The scheme opens for applications at the end of January and a cash back incentive for front-runner applications has just been announced. You can get the ball rolling now by calling the Green Deal advice line on 0300 123 1234. “The Green Deal is available to everybody and has been designed with no upfront costs; instead the work is paid for by a loan that will be paid back via savings on your energy bills. The golden rule is that the predicted savings from the energy efficiency improvements must equal or exceed the cost of installation. “Fuel poverty affects almost a quarter of residents who live in rural ‘off grid gas’ areas and I am determined to ensure that we seize every opportunity to improve our energy efficiency, reduce our carbon footprint and save money.” Further details about the scheme can be…

ERYC Voice Their Concern Over Strategic Gaps Between Hull and Haltemprice

East Riding Local Plan

The Leader of East Riding of Yorkshire Council has hit back at Hull City Council’s decision not to object to development in the previously protected open areas between the city of Hull and the Haltemprice settlements – including Anlaby, Willerby, Hessle, Kirkella and Cottingham. Hull City Council’s decision comes despite a previous agreement from both councils to a draft Joint Planning Statement – a document which sets out local planning issues considered to be of significant or ‘strategic’ importance to both areas – which was expected to be adopted by each authority. East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s cabinet approved the draft statement in June but surprisingly Hull’s cabinet decided it wanted to remove any reference to retaining the strategic gaps between Hull and Cottingham, Anlaby, Willerby, Kirkella and Hessle. Strategic open gaps between these areas retain the separate character of these settlements and prevent urbanisation. The view of East Riding Council’s Leader is, however, that any new development should be appropriate to the locality and seek to retain the strategic gaps. Since the decisions talks have taken place at a senior level but the City Council are standing by their decision. Leader of East Riding of Yorkshire Council, Councillor Stephen…

Coastal Safety Reminder

August 7, 2012

East Riding of Yorkshire boasts some of the most stunning coastline and safe bathing areas in the UK. Whilst none of the thousands of visitors to the area has reported any injury or near miss incidents this year, other coastal areas have been less fortunate. In conjunction with the ‘Explore the East Riding Coast’ brochure, which promotes a host of safe activities available along the 85km coastline (available on-line at www2.eastriding.gov.uk/leisure/tourism-and-attractions/coastal-attractions/east-riding-coast/safety-advice/ and in hard copy from tourist information centres in Bridlington, Hornsea and Withernsea), the council would also like to remind visitors that the natural beauty of the area does hide some natural phenomena which need to be treated with a degree of caution. To ensure that residents and tourists are able to fully enjoy the East Riding coast, the Council would remind people about potential safety issues on beaches and cliff tops. This follows recent coastal erosion losses in Mappleton, and landslips in the south of England. Large sections of the East Riding’s 85-kilometre coastline are affected by coastal erosion due to natural processes. Cliff losses linked to coastal erosion can occur at any time of the year and both visitors and residents are advised to take care on…

On 11th May Graham Stuart attended Hornsea School and Language College’s Green Britain Day Conference. The environmental themed day was organised to raise awareness of local renewable energy developments and career opportunities within the industry. Students from Hornsea School’s German link school in Bremerhaven also took part, along with pupils from other East Yorkshire schools. Businesses from the renewable energy sector, including SMart Wind, Neptune Renewable Energy and Footprint Renewables were supporting the day. After opening the morning with a short speech, Graham had the opportunity to talk with students as they took part in a variety of workshops. The Beverley and Holderness MP said “Green Britain Day is all about building awareness, understanding and excitement about a greener Britain. By linking business, schools and a green vision, we can bring these issues alive and let the children take centre stage.” In March the Climate Change Minister, Greg Barker MP, visited the school at their request and with Graham’s support. Mr Barker praised their approach to green issues. Use Facebook to Comment on this Post

Heating Scheme Extended In The East Riding

More people across the East Riding of Yorkshire are set to benefit from warmer homes and lower energy bills thanks to the extension of a successful scheme. For the past four years, East Riding of Yorkshire Council has been working in partnership with community interest company, Community Energy Solutions (CES), to help residents across the region whose homes are not connected to the gas mains network. In areas where gas network extensions are not possible, this has meant replacing the properties’ outdated heating systems with new state-of-the-art air-source heat pumps, which draw in air from the outside and use it to heat radiators in each room. Now, after more than 200 successful installations across the East Riding, the scheme has been extended until the end of March 2013, with East Riding of Yorkshire Council obtaining funding to install new central heating systems in a minimum of 25 more homes. Councillor Symon Fraser, cabinet portfolio holder for environment, housing and planning at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “We have already worked closely with CES to benefit a number of our tenants across the region and it’s fantastic to be able to continue this partnership and help more people in East…
