Patient Voice Championed As New Clinical Commissioning Group Takes Over

East Riding of Yorkshire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) is the new leader of the local NHS, aiming to deliver better care, more locally within budget, through transformation, and increased patient and public involvement in developing local health care services. The CCG is made up of 38 local GP practices, and is responsible for planning and commissioning hospital, mental health and community health care services for the East Riding area. The East Riding has particular challenges with an ageing population and some areas of health inequality. Earlier this year the CCG consulted on its priorities with GPs and local community representatives, and agreed the focus for the first year would be on promoting healthy independent ageing. In particular, this means improving diagnosis and treatment for patients with dementia, and providing improved care management of patients with multiple long term conditions, including improved self care. The CCG will also be working in collaboration with East Riding of Yorkshire Council, NHS providers and the new local Healthwatch through the Health and Wellbeing Board to improve health outcomes in the East Riding around reducing health inequalities/ improving life expectancy and improving the health and wellbeing of children. Dr Gina Palumbo, local GP and Chair…

Economic Development Strategy Launched

A strategy has been launched to promote sustainable economic development over the next four years in the East Riding. The East Riding of Yorkshire Economic Development Strategy was launched by the East Riding of Yorkshire Local Strategic Partnership’s Economy and Skills Action Group at Brough Business Centre. The strategy sets out a long-term vision, strategic framework and an overview of the activities the Local Strategic Partnership will seek to promote between 2012 and 2016. The impact of the global financial crisis during 2007-2008 had wide ranging implications for the East Riding’s economy. Many businesses have seen trading conditions become more difficult, with demand falling and access to funding becoming more constrained. Delivery of economic development activity has also changed with a greater focus on local priority setting through Local Enterprise Partnerships, a removal of regional structures and competitive funding replacing programmed public sector funds. This strategy is sensitive to the current difficult market conditions and advocates activity to build the economic resilience of the East Riding and its businesses and workforce. Councillor Jane Evison, cabinet portfolio holder for economic development, tourism and rural issues at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “In spite of the uncertain economic climate, there are…

Local GP and chair of NHS Hull CCG, Dr Tony Banerjee, said: “This is great news and I’m proud that the work already undertaken in Hull has received such a ringing endorsement by the NHS Commissioning Board. The new arrangements put local clinicians at the heart of the planning and development of local healthcare services. MATCH REPORT : Under 13s Cup, Cherry Burton 4 v 3 North Cave

October 9, 2012
By

A Thomas Scarborough goal in the last seconds of the match settled this thrilling encounter between two excellent sides. Playing the joint league leaders of the top division Cherry knew they had to start well and this they did as Scarborough forced a good save from the keeper early on. However it was Cave that took the lead when a fine cross was met by an even better header. Cherry’s defence of Josh Darley, Jack Curtis, Charles Williams, Harry Hemphill and Elbie Laurie were all superb and gave the Cave attack no time on the ball and with keeper Harry Milner producing a couple of outstanding saves the game remained in the balance. In fact Cherry started to dominate and were unlucky not to equalise following good efforts from Bradley Maffin and Brandon May. Finally the pressure told as Maffin found Owen Parnaby and his low 25 yard shot nestled in the corner to see Cherry go into the break all square. Cave started the second half brightly and took the lead again, albeit quite fortunately, as a clearance ricocheted off the forwards leg back into the goal. Cave then increased their lead when a strong run and low shot…
