East Yorkshire Council

The Rt Hon Patrick McLoughlin MP, Secretary of State for Transport, is today visiting the East Riding to mark the completion of highway works on the A164 and speak to users of the council’s Wheels to Work Scheme, in Goole, which was funded by the Department for Transport’s (DfT) Local Sustainable Transport Fund (LSTF). The £10 million A164 Humber Bridge to Beverley Route Improvement Scheme, to which the council contributed £2.3 million, began in spring 2012 and was designed to reduce congestion, particularly at peak intervals, and improve traffic flows for up to 35,000 vehicles using the road each day. As well as the installation of a section of dual carriageway, between Willerby and Castle Hill, the council’s contractor, Jackson Civil Engineering, also reconfigured four roundabouts and constructed lengths of new footpath/cycleway. To commemorate the occasion, Mr McLoughlin, Councillor Stephen Parnaby OBE, leader of East Riding of Yorkshire Council, and Adam Tuke, contracts director for Jackson Civil Engineering, will be planting a tree at the site. In the afternoon, the Transport Secretary will be visiting Goole to view one of the schemes being funded by the £1.8 million the council successfully secured from the LSTF for the ‘Get Moving Goole’…

Progress Being Made With Keldgate Works

East Riding of Yorkshire Council is pleased to announce that Keldgate, in Beverley, will re-open to motorists and the travelling public this evening. Engineers have completed resurfacing works ahead of schedule, following the reinstatement of the pavement and carriageway. The road has been closed due to a structural fault with an adjacent wall and the carriageway, which was a hazard to the public. Due to the wall’s proximity to a number of vital services, utility companies’ had to secure mains gas, electricity and telecommunications and Yorkshire Water needed to repair a defect with the main sewer, before a contractor, working on behalf of the council, could dismantle the wall. Once the wall was down, the council repaired a void under the pavement and highway. Nigel Leighton, director of environment and neighbourhood services at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “The council is happy to report that Keldgate will be open to vehicles this evening and would like to thank residents, motorists and the travelling public for their patience during this closure, which was put in place for public safety.” Use Facebook to Comment on this Post

Progress Being Made With Keldgate Works

East Riding of Yorkshire Council is aiming to reopen Keldgate to motorists and the travelling public on Friday morning after Yorkshire Water complete repair works to the public sewer. The road has been closed due to an emergency closure being put in place, after a 4m high wall became unstable. Due to the wall’s proximity to a number of vital services, utility companies’ had to secure mains gas, electricity and telecommunications before a contractor, working on behalf of the council, could dismantle the wall. Once the wall was down; the council repaired a void under the pavement and highway and, with the utility work now complete, has started to reinstate the footpath and carriageway ahead of resurfacing works. Nigel Leighton, director of environment and neighbourhood services at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “We would like to thank residents, motorists and the travelling public for their patience during the closure of Keldgate, which was in place for public safety. “These works have been very challenging given the wall’s location to vital services and have meant the council and the utility companies have had to proceed carefully to avoid disrupting gas, water, electric and telecommunication supplies. “It is anticipated that the council will complete the…

Progress Being Made With Keldgate Works

Utility companies have finalised works in Keldgate, Beverley, and the council has started reinstating the footway, kerbs and carriageway after investigations indentified high groundwater levels as the probable reason for a 4m high wall, adjoining Keldgate Manor, becoming unstable. An emergency road closure was put in place more than a week ago after the wall’s foundations became defective and a contractor, working on behalf of the council, dismantled the wall in the interests of public safety. The council has then spent a number of days investigating a void and settlement under the highway, but has had to proceed carefully due to the proximity of vital services, including gas, water, electricity and communications serving large parts of Beverley. Engineers have now repaired the void and will begin resurfacing works early next week, anticipating that the road will re-open to motorists and the travelling public toward the middle/end of the week. Nigel Leighton, director of environment and neighbourhood services at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “The council has now completed its investigations and it would appear that high groundwater levels have affected the wall’s foundations, resulting in the wall sinking. “I would like to thank residents, motorists and the travelling public…

B1228 : Update On Proposed Road Works

February 1, 2013
By
East Yorkshire Council

The eight-week road closure of the B1228 for carriageway reconstruction works, which was due to commence on Monday, 4 February, has been delayed for a week in order to allow groundwater levels to be measured. The testing will be done in order to be certain whether the current high groundwater levels being experienced in the area will have an adverse affect on the carriageway recycling process. Provided that the results of the testing demonstrate suitable conditions, the two sections of reconstruction at the locations will be carried out simultaneously in order to keep the road closure periods to a minimum: Site one, between Fog Lane and General Lane, Ellerton, will see works carried out in two phases, between Rossmoor Lodge Junction and Ash Lane cross roads, starting on Monday, 11 February, and between Ash Lane and Ellerton Common Junction, starting on Monday, 25 February. Site two, on Street Lane, Bubwith, will also be carried out in two phases, between the A163 junction at Bubwith and Breighton Airfield, starting on Monday, 11 February, and phase two, between Brieghton Airfield and the junction near Spaldington, starting on Monday, 25 February. Access through the two sites will only be permitted for residents and…

Kedlgate Could Remain Closed To Traffic For A Week

January 29, 2013
By
East Yorkshire Council

East Riding of Yorkshire Council has announced that Kedlgate, in Beverley, could be closed for up to a week, after excavation work started on site to establish the reason why a 4m high wall, adjoining Keldgate Manor, became unstable. Utility companies are currently securing services, with the electricity now switched off, gas supplies being diverted and Yorkshire Water inspecting a possible defect in the public sewer. In spite of the wall now being down, its proximity to essential services means that the council must proceed carefully with its investigations. There is a serious dip in the carriageway and pavement and the council suspects that there is a void under the road, which will need repairing before the temporary road closure can be lifted. Nigel Leighton, director of environment and neighbourhood services at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “The council is continuing to work closely with the utility companies to bring about an expedient resolution in Keldgate and anticipates that this will take up to another week to resolve. Daily updates will be provided on progress. “The council understands the frustrations of motorists and the travelling public, but must ensure that these works are carried out in a diligent and careful manner…
