The Hallé Orchestra is to perform at The Baths Hall, Scunthorpe on Thursday, 21 February. The concert will be a tribute to music from across the pond. ‘Stars & Stripes’ will be bluesy, jazzy and irresistibly uplifting, featuring works by Gershwin, Copland and Bernstein, alongside a classic by one of the great American masters of light orchestral music, Leroy Anderson and Samuel Barber’s poignant and atmospheric Adagio for Strings. The concert will be conducted by Stephen Bell. The Hallé gave its first concert on 30 January 1858 under the baton of its founder Sir Charles Hallé. Now in its 155th season, the Hallé ranks among the UK’s top symphonic ensembles, with a distinguished history of acclaimed performances in this country and around the world; award-winning recordings, radio broadcasts and educational outreach programmes; and a visionary commitment to building audiences and developing orchestral repertoire. The orchestra is based at Manchester’s Bridgewater Hall. The Hallé’s performance follows a wonderful performance by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra at The Baths Hall earlier this month. The RPO’s visits to Scunthorpe have been so successful they are already booked to re-appear in March 2013 – the fourth time the orchestra will have performed at The Baths…

New regional campaign ‘Think B4U Drink’ is being officially launched next week to Humberside as new website is brought into action. Think B4U Drink (TB4UD) is a campaign run by a range of agencies within the region; including Humberside Police, NHS, East Riding of Yorkshire Council, Humberside Fire and Rescue and Safer Roads Humber. Safe drinking is a priority for all agencies involved and this campaign is the perfect outlet for all organisations to get their safe drinking messages out there to our communities. For many of us, drinking with friends and family is one of life’s pleasures. We use alcohol to unwind, to celebrate, to have a laugh and to socialise, but alcohol can also have a negative side to it. Having too much to drink on a night out can not only give you a hang over but can leave you in very dangerous situations. Like getting into a fight, making you vulnerable to sexual assault, being tempted to drive home drunk or accidentally setting fire to the house making some supper. Drinking too much over a long time can also have long terms risk to your health, your relationships and your family. Throughout this significant summer of…

SCUNTHORPE : Art Of Genital Origami Set To Visit

October 24, 2012
By

The world famous Puppetry of the Penis show will visit The Baths Hall in Scunthorpe next year. Dubbed the “art of genital origami”, the show, which has travelled the world for the last 15 years, has been a smash hit with audiences from the West End of London to Broadway in New York. Having been performed for London’s A-list, including Hugh Grant, Naomi Campbell, Elton John, Bono and The Beckhams, it will be visiting Scunthorpe on 11 May 2013 and tickets are now on sale. Puppetry of the Penis was born when Simon Morley teamed up with fellow puppeteer David “Friendy” Friend. The name was originally conceived by Simon, as the title of a highbrow art calendar. Released in 1997, the calendar showcased twelve of Simon’s favourite penis installations (known as ‘Dick Tricks’). The calendar soon turned into a show and toured Australia to critical acclaim. A spokesman for the show said: “After working for many years as a comedy promoter working some of Australia’s funniest people, Simon finally felt he had something just as funny lingering in his pants.” After taking the show across their native Australia, the boys performed at the 2000 Edinburgh International Fringe Festival, where they…
