
Humberside Police are warning people to be on their guard and not to leave purses in easily accessible places after nine purse thefts have been reported since the beginning of the year in the East Riding. In March alone, seven victims aged between 48 and 89-years old have had their purses stolen whilst out shopping in the East Riding. CCTV Stills of two women have been released, in a bid for the public to help indentify them and help officers with their enquiries. The offences have occurred in Morrison’s Supermarkets in Anlaby and Brough, Bon Marche in Beverley, Post Office in Hessle and a charity shop and Co-operative Store in Cottingham. Two shoppers were targeted at a similar time whist shopping in Bon Marche, in Beverley: At 1120hrs on Thursday 14 March 2013, as a 48-year-old woman was browsing inside the clothes shop her handbag was allegedly unzipped taking her purse from the bag, containing the victims purse, bank cards, driving license, medical card, and money. At the same time on the same day a 65-year-old woman was also inside the clothing shop and had her handbag allegedly unzipped, selecting her purse.
