East Riding Local Plan

East Riding of Yorkshire Council is pleased to announce the appointment of local construction company, Hobson & Porter, as the main contractor for the £6million Haltemprice Centre project, with the works scheduled to start at the end of April. The scheme, which forms part of the council’s capital investment programme, was granted planning permission in December last year and will improve access to service provision by bringing a number of local services under one roof, including Anlaby’s library and customer service centre, resulting in reduced running costs as well as addressing a number of maintenance requirements and improving the venue’s energy efficiency. Initial works will focus on the new extension to the rear of the building, which will become the main entrance, and refurbishment of outdoor pitches and creation of additional parking spaces. Work will be phased to minimise disruption, and will take approximately 20 months to complete, with the final element of the works completed in autumn 2014. Councillor Stephen Parnaby OBE, leader of East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “The creation of the Haltemprice Centre to provide a host of services under one roof demonstrates the commitment of this council in continuing to provide high-quality services for our…

East Riding Local Plan

East Riding of Yorkshire Council and Hull City Council have welcomed news that the Environment Agency has approved the grant funding application for a major flood alleviation scheme that will reduce the risk of flooding for around 8,000 properties. The £14.4 million Willerby and Derringham Flood Alleviation Scheme (WaDFAS) will consist of a series of lagoons at Rawdales Farm, Robson’s Cottage, Albion Mills and Carr Lane, which will hold around 205,000 cubic metres of water and was granted planning permission earlier this year. The next stages of the project will be to finalise the detailed design, procure a contractor and acquire the land necessary for the scheme, preferably by negotiation, although a compulsory purchase order is being prepared and anticipated to be published in spring/summer. Construction works are currently anticipated to start in summer 2014 and be complete in summer 2015. Councillor Stephen Parnaby OBE, leader of East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “I think I speak for both residents of the East Riding and Hull, when I say how welcome the news is that the funding for this important scheme has been secured and, with planning permission approved, that its delivery cannot happen soon enough. “The council takes the…

E-safety Award For East Riding Primary School

An East Riding primary school has been recognised for their commitment to e-safety after becoming the first school in Yorkshire to receive a national award. Anlaby Acre Heads Primary School is one of just 47 schools in the country to be awarded the 360 degree safe e-safety mark after their e-safety provision was inspected by representatives from the South West Grid for Learning. After meeting with staff, pupils, parents and carers as well as governors, assessors found that the school provided a high level of protection for users through physical aspects of technology as well as education. The report said: “There is a very pro-active e-safety team successfully led by ICT subject leader, Michelle Radge, and there is a clear commitment to e-safety by the governors, senior leadership team, staff, children and all members of the school community, including parents. “The school’s technical support provider, Primary Tec, provides a robust and effective infrastructure that is effective in ensuring the e-safety of users within the school.” Lead assessor for the 360 degree safe e-safety mark, Ron Richards, congratulated the school on its success and said: “It is reassuring to know the school has put a lot of thought and effort into…

Dog Walkers Urged To Leave Nothing Behind But Footsteps

East Riding of Yorkshire Council is launching Dog Fouling Week under the slogan ‘Leave nothing behind but your footsteps’. Some areas of the East Riding are plagued by dog fouling and despite pleas from the council the nuisance is continuing. As part of its campaign to tackle the problem, which causes distress to residents, the council is holding a week of early morning patrols by its dog wardens in selected areas. Dog Fouling Week starts on Monday, 11 March in Beverley, Bridlington, Goole, Withernsea and the Anlaby, Cottingham and Hessle area. The dog wardens will be supported by other enforcement officers. Fixed penalty notices will be issued to those dog walkers who fail to clean up. The £75 fixed penalty notice is issued under the Fouling of Land by Dogs Order 2009, which makes it an offence to fail to clean up after a dog which defecates on land in the open air to which the public have access. Failure to pay up could land the dog walker in court, which also has the effect of bumping up the cost. Councillor Jackie Cracknell, portfolio holder for community partnerships, said: “The message behind Dog Fouling Week is a simple one, clean…

HULL : Police Issue Warning To People In Hull Using ATM Machines

Police are asking people to be vigilant when using cash machines in the Hull area following reports cash machines have possibly been tampered with in the city. Police were called on Monday 18 February, following reports of cash machines in the Anlaby Road and Holderness Road areas had been tampered with. Nobody is thought to have had any money stolen when using the cash machines, but damage had been caused to the front of the machines. Police are aware that a number of people will not notice if devices have been added to a machine and will make their withdrawals as normal. Criminals use the copied details to produce a fake magnetic stripe card, which will be used – with the correct PIN – at cash machines or shops that haven’t yet been upgraded to chip and PIN. Customers who shield the keypad when they enter their PIN are much less likely to fall victim to this type of fraud. To help minimise the risk of becoming a victim of crime, police are asking people to consider the following advice: Card skimming or card cloning devices are used by fraudsters to capture credit and debit card details from unsuspecting members…

Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust Help The Homeless!

December 24, 2012

Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust

Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust are working in partnership with local charities and organisations to create a temporary homeless shelter in Hull to provide overnight shelter during the coldest nights of the year. The shelter, located at Sanctuary House, 213 Anlaby Road is to go live from Thursday 20th December 2012 until 28th February 2013, 8pm to 8am. Pauline Lewin, Director of Infrastructure and Development who is the Trust lead on Corporate Social Responsibility says “The provision of an emergency ‘night shelter’ in Hull falls short of demand at the moment and it is regrettable that there are homeless people in the city who cannot be accommodated”. With this in mind Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust have launched a homeless shelter in partnership with local charities and organisations. Such organisations include Sanctuary Housing and Groundwork. It is supported by Kingston upon Hull Council and other charities. The aim of the shelter is to create a stopgap for homeless people over the winter, and may reduce hospital emergency admissions from this group. Staff in the Trust have volunteered to provide routine health checks in their own time. The main homeless shelter in Hull at the moment is…
