Graham Stuart MP Leads Event To Help Save Lives

As part of a campaign to improve emergency ambulance response times across his constituency, Member of Parliament for Beverley and Holderness, Graham Stuart held a HEART Conference in Withernsea last Saturday. Named ‘Influence, Educate and Have a Go’ the aim of the event was to get members of the public to learn how they can make a difference in an emergency as well as promoting the work of Community First Responder Teams. Graham said, “Saturday’s event was so well received that people are urging me to repeat it in Beverley, Hedon and Hornsea, it was fantastic to see so many children and adults who were genuinely interested in learning how to save a life. Knowing how to save the life of a friend, loved one or even a complete stranger is a skill that you hope you will never need to use but will be very grateful of if you find yourself in an emergency situation. “Since the beginning of my campaign, emergency response times in the constituency have got better but there is still room for improvement; with greater support for our Community First Responder Teams and more teams, particularly in Mid Holderness, we can improve those times further…

East Riding Local Plan

Public health experts in East Yorkshire are urging parents to ensure that their children are fully vaccinated against measles. The move comes as cases of the disease reported across England and Wales continue to be at the highest levels seen since 2004. In line with trends across the country, the number of cases of measles is rising in North Yorkshire and the Humber, including the East Riding of Yorkshire. Since the beginning of January 2013, 80 suspected cases of measles have been reported across North Yorkshire and the Humber area (28 of which have been laboratory confirmed). By comparison, 29 suspected cases of the disease were reported in the same area between January and March the previous year, 2012 (none of which were laboratory confirmed). In response, public health experts in the East Riding of Yorkshire are urging parents to ensure their children have received two doses of the Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR) vaccine. Dr Tim Allison, Director of Public Health for East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “Despite the recent national increase across the UK, overall measles is now relatively rare because a safe and effective vaccination – the MMR (Measles, Mumps and Rubella) – protects against it.…

Hull KR

Northern Rail Cup action is heading for east Hull this Sunday when MS3 Craven Park hosts the group stage fixture between Gateshead Thunder and the North Wales Crusaders (KO 3pm). With the pitch at the Gateshead Stadium currently being renovated, the Thunder took the decision to move the game to Hull as part of the ongoing partnership between themselves and the Robins. Several of the red and whites’ younger first-team squad members are on dual registration with the Thunder and the trio of Chris Heil, Aaron Ollett and Rich Beaumont all turned out for them against Rochdale last weekend. One or two of them could also be on duty against the North Wales Crusaders this Sunday alongside the likes of Luke Hardcastle, Nick Johnson, Rowan Colquhoun, Jacob Blades, Curtis Pullen and Benn Hardcastle, all of whom are ex-Robins. Admission to the game is just £10 adults and £5 concessions so if you’re at a loose end on Sunday then why not get yourself along to MS3 Craven Park and catch some rugby league action? Graham Stuart Welcomes New Traineeship Programme

January 28, 2013
By
Graham Stuart

Local MP Graham Stuart has welcomed plans to set up a new traineeship programme to help give young people the confidence, skills and experience to compete with more experienced adults. The new programme was announced by Skills Minister Matthew Hancock just before he visited Beverley and Holderness at Graham Stuart’s invitation earlier this month to discuss what is being done locally to help prepare youngpeople for success in today’s increasingly competitive labour market. Following the announcement Graham Stuart said, “This is great news for young people trying to get a foot on the work ladder. The Government is doing more than ever to make sure our young people have the skills they need to compete and succeed in the workplace. A record half a million people started apprenticeships last year, with 3,790 in Beverley and Holderness. This new traineeship programme will help even more young people.” Matthew Hancock, Minister for Skills, added, “We want to support everyone in our country to reach their personal best. To do that, we are introducing traineeships to help young people with the skills they need to get, and hold down a job. “That’s vital for our economy to compete in the global race. It’s also a question of fairness. Traineeships will give young people the helping hand and experience they need to compete…
