Thick skinned entrepreneur creates leather case business in his 50s with help from Prince’s Charity

Before he set up his “Pinegrove Leather” which creates bespoke leather cases, Rod was one of the 3. people between the age of 50 and 64 out of work in the UK.

and is a huge problem for the over 50 community; many of whom possess a wealth of skill and , yet are turned away from employment because of their age. Rod’s story proves that self-employment is a fantastic and fulfilling option for people over the age of 50.

With help from The Prince’s , a set up by , dedicated to helping by the over 50 , Rod was supported through his self-employment journey.

Rod attended The Prince’s Initiative’s “Preparing to Run Your Own ” in , which provided him with the tools to develop “Pinegrove Leather”.

Rod said, “ seemed awful at the time. The Prince’s Initiative’s support has been truly invaluable. It’s great that self-employment for people over the age of 50 is being encouraged by this organisation and they are fantastic in helping over 50s turn their dream into a reality – helping them make the into self-employment with the skills necessary to succeed.”
