Heart Towns is a new and exciting scheme from the nation’s heart charity that brings entire communities together through local fundraising and volunteering to help beat heart disease. As well as raising awareness of heart disease in Beverley the BHF will be offering residents a raft of support services, including, school’s initiatives, workplace health and health and lifestyle information resources.
Sharon Oakley, BHF Fundraising Volunteer Manager for East Yorkshire says:
“It’s a shocking fact that heart and circulatory disease is the UK’s biggest killer. Every day, 276 people have a heart attack. That includes people in Beverley, your family, your neighbours and your friends.”
“Our Heart Town communities will learn how to look after their hearts with our practical steps on how to improve lifestyle and heart health.”
“We are delighted that Beverley Town Council has decided to become a Heart Town, making a commitment to improving the heart health of the Beverley community today and for future generations.”
“We hope local people will support us through regional volunteering and fundraising activities to raise money for the BHFs Mending Broken Hearts Appeal.”
“The council recognises the benefits from working with other agencies and feels that this is a great initiative to be involved with. We hope to spread the heart town message far and wide across the East Riding by focusing on Beverley where people travel to for both work and pleasure.“
BHF volunteer Simon Barrett from Molescroft, Beverley, is a BHF Volunteer Ambassador.
“I became actively involved with BHF since 2006, and I am pleased to be able to help the BHF being an active member of Beverley Heart Town.”
For 50 years, the BHF has helped the people of the UK look after their hearts, and fight heart disease. The Heart Town initiative is part of the biggest ever fundraising appeal ever launched in the BHF’s history, the Mending Broken Heart Appeal.
The goal is simple: to fund the research that could begin to ‘mend broken hearts’ in as little as 10 years. That’s why Beverley’s support is so vital.
Every person in Beverley can really can make a difference and help give hope to millions. You can do almost anything you like!
