The map is intended to encourage residents and visitors to the area to dust off their bikes and get back in the saddle to explore the local landscape using pedal power.
The cycle map includes details of six circular bike rides all starting from Pocklington town centre. The routes are of varying length and difficulty and have been designed to cater for all ages and abilities. Most of the routes run along quiet roads or tracks and take in some of the beautiful scenery of the Yorkshire Wolds and the surrounding villages.
The map has been funded through the council’s third Local Transport Plan and builds on the success of the recent cycle route improvements introduced along Hodsow Lane and Barmby Road. These two links provide a continuous and safe route for cyclists accessing Pocklington and the surrounding areas.
“The council is making every effort to encourage more people to get active and to get out and about using their bikes. We hope that the map will be well used by local people and visitors to the area and that people enjoy the rides.”
Local residents have also supported the new cycle map. Jo Green, a keen local cyclist, said:
“Pocklington is a great place for cycling with both flat and hilly routes. The new map is attractive and has routes for cyclists with different levels of fitness. I hope it will encourage both residents and visitors to enjoy the surrounding countryside.”
