Members of the Leven Women’s Institute (WI) and staff from the East Riding Libraries Service will be promoting library membership on Saturday, 4 February to celebrate National Libraries Day.
A stall will be set up, including sweets for children and bunting, outside the village shop, from 10.30am-12.30pm, and members of Leven Library staff and the WI will provide membership and opening time information as well as library joining forms for any resident who is not yet a library member.
The stall was proposed by the WI as part of its national libraries campaign. Jean Johnson of Leven WI, said: “Ever since its inception, the WI has been involved with rural libraries. We are keen to support any initiative that promotes libraries in general and in particular our local library where we always receive a friendly, personal and well-informed service.”
Councillor Jane Evison, cabinet portfolio holder for rural issues and cultural services, said: “Libraries play a very important role within local communities and are a service our residents really value.
“National Libraries Day is all about encouraging people to visit their local library and explore the range of services it has to offer as well as being able to make suggestions about anything that could be added to the service to meet library users needs.”
Tickton WI will also be promoting library services in the village and will be outside the travelling library on Green Lane, from 11.30am-1pm, on Saturday, 4 February, with members ‘bringing a friend’ to join the library.
