The blue and golds got their first league points of the season in convincing style on their travels to Lambwath last Saturday.
Rich Shaw was able to field easily his strongest side thus far this season. Suddenly the prospects for the season look far brighter with team playing as a well organised cohesive unit.
They looked far stronger in the pivotal positions with half backs Steve Connolly and Steve Davidson forming a lethal partnership allowing centres Ryan Watkin and Ian Lane to create havoc out wide. Hooker Gavin Proctor was at his impish best helping himself to a hattrick of tries from close range.
The visitors were on the scoresheet after only 3 minutes courtesy of a try from the ever hardworking Adam Norton which Connolly converted.
They then following a period of almost 10 minutes of pressure from the hosts as they camped out inside Beverley 20 metre zone and the visitors defensive qualities were severley put to the test.
Having absorbed the pressure Ian Lane heped himself to the first of his two tries. The home side hit back and it took a superb last ditch tackle from Pete Newton to stop a try following a 70 metre charge downfield from a Lambwath forward.
Just before the interval Ian Lane added his second try in a man of the match performance, beating several defenders on the way to the line to send the blue and golds 16-0 to the good at the break.
Beverley looked to turn the screw in the second half and after Adam Norton was unlucky to be pulled back for a forward pass, Ryan Watkin went over from a well timed inside pass from Steve Davidson.
The points then began to flow as the visitors pack took control of the preceedings with Joe Wileman and Adam Norton especially catching the eye.
Gavin Proctor added three tries two of which were from the customary dummy half position. Steve Connolly weighed in also with a try to add to his six conversions.
The host managed two late consolation tries as reward for plucky effort.
Coach Rich Shaw enthusing over his sides first win commented ” Everything came together today, all of the moves in training and I was especially pleased with the efforts of our younger players’
