Remarkable New Service: Sensing God @ Beverley Minster

Beverley Minster will be hosting a remarkable service on the afternoon of Saturday 1st October, from 1pm to 4pm.

‘Sensing God’ will be a service for people of all ages, for people with disabilities and people with none, to explore our environment though our senses and learn more about what God’s concern for our world is.

The Revd Jeremy Fletcher, Vicar of Beverley Minster said;

“We’re really excited about ‘Sensing God’ on 1st October. There will be ways to experience our environment through all the senses – you will be able to smell and feel the Garden of Eden, touch and create art with recycled materials, and listen to the sounds of wildlife and birds.”

“Churches in the Diocese of York are celebrating 2011 as the Year of the Environment – we believe as Christians we have a duty to care for our environment.”

The Revd Linda Shipp is the Diocesan Officer for People with Disabilities. She said;

“’Sensing God’ is going to be an amazing service – we wanted to create a major opportunity for people to come and worship together in ways that are appropriate for people with disabilities and people with none.”

“So, as well as singing songs, we’ll also be signing the words.”

“As well as having chances to see art, there will be chances to touch and create art. We hope that it will be a chance for people with and without disabilities to come together, learn about our environment, and all worship God together as one big family.”

BSL signers will be available, all areas to be used will have full wheelchair access, and Beverley Minster has a hearing loop which will be used.
