Mohicans Thrash League Leaders Westellla

Mohicans were on song as they thrashed Juniors 4-0 in the .

On a cool dry day, Mohicans needed to play their best to overcome a top side in Westella, who have many trialists in their ranks.

The game started at a quick pace and strong challenges from Will Woods, Louie Kelly, and set the standard for the match.

Callum Ward battled in midfield while and were always running and pressurising the Juniors’ defence.

On eight mins Callum Ward fired in a great dipping shot but the ball unfortunately rebounded off the cross bar – straight to . He took a touch, composed himself and blasted the Mohicans into a deserved lead.

Chances were created at both ends and Mohicans’ stand-in keeper, Oliver Morrison, was commanding his box very well, appearing to have played in goal all his life.

Going forward, Mohicans played some silky passing straight from the training ground that trainer would have been proud of.

After 17 mins, a surging run by was halted when he was fouled 30 yards out.

Managers Dave Collingwood and Jon Spence looked on in anticipation for Callum Ward to have another wonder strike to double the lead. He did not disappoint with a trademark shot just under the bar which gave the keeper no chance.

Mohicans nearly scored again when was fouled on the edge of the box but the ref played on as the ball went to .

He had a great shot from 25 yards out which skimmed the top of the crossbar.

The Juniors then had a golden chance to pull one back as Callum Ward was harshly judged to have fouled in the area.

Oliver Morrison stood tall and made the penalty taker try to be too precise as he placed it past Oli’s right hand but onto a post.

With the 2-0 scoreline Dave Collingwood delivered a half-time talk to keep the boys encouraged and also to keep them battling and trying to play flowing .

At the start of the second half Oliver Morrison again showed great goalkeping ability as he denied the Juniors with a brilliant save.

Mid way through the half seemed to run from one side of the pitch to the other skillfully dribbling the ball before unleashing a magnificent, unstoppable shot, Mohicans’ 100th  goal of the season.

With Greg Whyley, Harry Stanifoth and Louie Kelly making numerous challenges and strong headers, Mohicans kept on top.

Again Oliver Morrison made a difficult save look easy after 32 mins and then a sweeping move ended with crossing for Marc O’Hare to head home and complete a magnificent 4-0 win for Mohicans.

Man of the match was Oliver Morrison for his saves but the whole team deserve praise for their battling and flowing .
