Longcroft Pupil Scoops Top Award

Beverley schoolgirl admitted she was absolutely shocked after being presented with a thoroughly-deserved award by the Humber Education and Partnership.

student Shannon, 15, from Hargreave Close, is in the first year of her newly-created Creative Media Diploma Course.

As a major part of her course, Shannon and her class-mates have used all aspects of the media – from interviewing to editing – to work with some of the region’s best-known employers.

And so well did she do, she was nominated by her teachers and was presented with her award by Beverley and Holderness at a memorable night at the Ramada Jarvis Hotel in Willerby recently.

An exceedingly modest Shannon told .net: “When I was told I was to be given this award, I was more shocked than anything as I thought other people would have deserved it more.

“But afterwards, when it had settled in, I was really pleased and so hyper.

“We were approached by the NHS to interview their staff, not just doctors or nurses but staff from all across their .

“I had to interview and take charge of what we did, and I got got really good marks and learned a lot at the same time.

“The reason I was told I’d got this award was because I was organised, knew what need to be done and had a good attitude.”

Other work undertaken by Shannon and her class-mates has involved going behind the scenes at Hull Truck , and creating adverts for holiday companies.

The Creative Media Diploma at Longcroft, for students aged 14-19, is in its first year and is a new approach to giving young people the right qualifications and attitudes for the modern workplace.

Shannon continued: “We are guinea pigs for this in a way. The are two levels, the first of which leads to five GCSEs and the second, which myself and most of my class is on, leads to seven GCSEs.

“I really want to do something creative in future, working in ideally, but I would like to continue my editing.”

Shannon was accompanied to the awards ceremony, sponsored by Yorkshire Bank, BP, BAE systems and Aimhigher Humber, by her teacher Miss Galloway and her parents Glyn and Pam. She was presented with a framed certificate and a book token for her prize.

They of course, were delighted with their daughter’s achievements.

They told .net: “It was a fantastic event and great to see young people being recognised for their efforts.

“We are extremely proud of Shannon for winning this award.

“She is a very special daughter and we wish her continued success in everything she does. ”
