The sun shone as Beverley St Nicholas primary school garden was reopened.
The head teacher, Liz Pollard, welcomed all those who had turned out to join the celebrations. She then thanked celebrity interior designer Linda Barker for joining them.
Cerys Burgin and Chloe Heselton chose to work on the garden as their project for the Humberside Police lifestyle project.
With the support and help of family, siblings, friends and extended family they achieved a remarkable transformation.
Linda Barker then presented the girls with the Friends of St Nicholas Outstanding Achievement award- this has been set up to award annually to a person or persons the Friends feel have made an outstanding contribution to St Nicholas Primary school.
The girls and Linda then cut to the ribbon to proclaim the garden open. This was followed by an excellent speech by both girls who thanked all those who helped them. They made special mention to the builders from Linden homes who provided them with invaluable help and resources.
The garden was originally set up by Mrs Harrison and we thank her for all her hard work. The regeneration was stimulated by Mrs Galbraith, Mrs Lound, Richard, Jay, Brandon and Connor when they set off bravely into the wilderness- thanks! Thanks also to St Johns RC Primary and John Hickling from the RHS for allowing the Lifestyle girls and members of the school governing body and the Friends to visit their garden and be inspired.
A number of other helpers gave their time to work in the garden- Terry Richardson the school caretaker proved an endless source of help. Other people who contributed were David Elvidge, Janet Elvidge, Caroline Bates, Sharon Markham, Mrs Blainey,Mr Rodley,Helen Fennell, Neil Fennell,Darren Burgess, Susan Burgess, Jack Burgess, Amanda Lewin, Neil Swaby, Pam Riby, Sharrin Powers The local Youth Offending Team also committed time to weeding and there will be work done in the future by a local Scout group.
There have been a number of donations made in addition to those who helped the girls. – The Friends of St Nicholas donated money for landscaping and also purchased the benches which are made of recycled plastic bottles! Other donations came from

The garden is an on-going project and will be a welcome area for pupils to spend their break and lunchtime as well as providing an excellent resource for outside learning.
