The Tanners were dumped out of the Grays Cup by North Cave while Beverley Town players and back room staff watched from the side-lines.
Before the match manager Lee Hastings told HU17.net that although he likes to win every game, this was never a must win game. Lee said:
“Our target for the season is promotion, this match should we win or lose will not impact on our season.”
“The motivation to win comes from the chance to get revenge on Beverley Town by playing them again.”
“Their skipper (Beverley Town), Jonny Ricardo, has not let any of us forget they beat us earlier in the season.”
“Whatever happens today will not matter too much as I am sure we will face them in the league next season.”
There was no need for Tanners’ gaffer Lee Hastings to worry as there will be no rematch between Hodgsons FC and Beverley Town.
Hodgsons FC went into the fixture knowing a win would set up a mouth-watering tie with Town and as such were quickly out of the blocks.
Karl Wallis opened the scoring for the Tanners heading in a Andrew Stott corner. Just five minutes later Adam Foster doubled the lead with a wonder strike and it seemed that Hodgsons would go on and win easily.
North Cave however had other ideas, they pulled one goal back then a defensive mix let the visitors in to level the match.
North Cave went on to score three more goals winning the game 5–2 to book a place in the next round with Grays Cup Holders, Beverley Town.
Hodgsons FC player Shaun Gibson said:
“I do not know what happened out there, we did not defend well as team.”
