Fred & Mary’s Quiz

Children and adults can test their local knowledge in a new quiz which follows the of 22 full sized paintings sited around Beverley.

The paintings show the town through the eyes of the artists Fred and Mary Elwell whose works were bequeathed to in 1958.

Free quizzes and trail leaflets (20p) are available from the art gallery at the , Champney Road, and the Beverley and Humber Bridge tourist information centres. Electronic versions can be downloaded from www.beverleyrenaissance.co.uk.

The paintings form an outdoor exhibition, called Painting the Town Fred and Mary, which features sites such as the , Champney Road and .

The project has been organised by Beverley and District Civic Society in partnership with the and .

Fred Elwell was born in Beverley in 1870 and trained at the Lincoln School of Art and academies in Antwerp and Paris. In 1914 he married artist Mary Dawson Holmes and the couple settled at Bar House, .
