DARK AGES DAY IN BEVERLEY

The garden of the in Beverley will be transformed when a Dark Age encampment is set up there on Saturday, 25 July.

Members of re-enactment group Ulf Hednar England will be on hand to talk about life in the Dark Ages, and there will be a series of events and activities in and around the , centred on the Vikings, Anglo-Saxons and Normans.

The day will start at 10am with story telling for children in gallery three of the , and action in the garden will start at 11am with a ‘Weapons and Warfare’ demonstration.

Events will continue in the garden throughout the day, finishing with a competition for the best-dressed Viking, Anglo-Saxon or Norman for children aged under 15.

Between 12 noon and 1pm, authors Paul Mortimer and Steve Pollington will be on hand in gallery three to answer questions on Dark Age and sign copies of their books.

Between 10am and 12 noon, and 1pm to 2.30pm, children will be able to recreate Viking pots, amulets and longhouses in the education room.

In gallery four, the Lady Mildryth will be posing, in costume, for aspiring artists to draw, under the expert guidance of local artist and art tutor (all materials provided, all ages welcome).   The event will run until around 3.30pm
