Hodgsons FC lost their opening game of the new Humber Premier League campaign against Reckitts AFC. It was Reckitts AFC who took the lead which they doubled after being awarded a controversial penalty in the second half.
The second goal seemed to take the wind out of Tanners and Reckitts AFC set about killing the game off using every delay tactic in the book. With over half an hour to play in the game the Reckitts AFC wasted time where ever possible just adding to the frustration of the home side.
The Tanners did finally did spring back into life after Adam Foster scored from the edge of the box giving Hodgsons a lifeline and more importantly giving the players the belief they so desperately needed at this point in the game.
The introduction of Scott-Jon Tyler for Shaun Gibson injected some much needed passion in the midfield, Tyler’s physical presence giving Reckitts AFC more to think about then the creativity of Gibson.
Still the visitors continued to kill the clock, goal kicks were taking longer and longer, it was a master class in how to kill game from a side who will no doubt be challenging for the Humber Premier league title.
It was not until 60th minute that the match officials stepped in warned the Reckitts AFC skipper that if they continued to waste time cards would be issued, something they should have done much sooner in the game.
The Tanners pilled on the pressure, Paul Silvester caused Reckitts AFC problems with his long throw as Tyler continued to chase down every ball.
Daniel Atkinson was introduced for the closing stages injecting some pace into the attack for the Tanners. The super sub went through a couple of times creating half chances which the Tanners failed to convert.
At one point a long range effort by the Hogdons FC was blocked by a Reckitts AFC player who used hands to block the shot.
Although he should have seen red the player in question was given just a yellow card for deliberate handball which incensed the Tanners players.
The resulting free kick from Foster was sent high over the bar much to the frustration of the fans.
A late flurry of corners saw Hodgsons come close no matter how hard they tried they were unable to get the ball on the target. Hodgsons boss Lee Hastings said after the game;
“I know they are a good team, we gave them a game today and it is really disappointing to be beaten in the way we were.”
He added;
“I was proud of the way we dug in right to the very end, and to be fair we really did deserve a point from the match. The penalty decision was very frustrating to say the least, but thats football, and its now in the past. We move on to the next match with confidence.”
