Beverley Minster is breaking with long-established tradition as it moves to an earlier start time for its Choral Evensong.
Sunday evening services at the Minster have traditionally started at 6.30pm but the new move will see the Choral Evensong begin at 5.30pm.
The change will give Beverley Minster greater flexibility for a wide range of services in future.
The Reverend Jeremy Fletcher, vicar at Beverley Minster, said;
“We used to run two different services alongside each other at the same time on a Sunday evening. The change of time for choral evensong will allow Beverley Minster to offer a wider range of services, traditional and more modern, consecutively.”
“We were also thinking about the young members in our choir who will now be able to get home at an earlier time.”
“Before making the changes we spoke with a wide range of people who would be affected and the overwhelming opinion was in favour.”
