MP Spots Progress In At Visit To New Flagship Retirement Development

David Davis, MP for Haltemprice and , paid a visit to Springs Court last week – the new Retirement Living Plus development currently under construction in Cottingham; from the leading manager and developer of retirement communities, McCarthy Stone.

Mr Davis was invited to the site on Northgate to see how the plans were progressing in recent months after a brief pause to construction during the pandemic; and to meet with Construction Director Iain Fleming and team, who are behind the major new investment in Cottingham.

Iain Fleming was able to demonstrate how the Retirement Living Plus development is helping to meet the needs of Cottingham retirees and the important role it will play in supporting the local high street in the future.

Mr Davis commented: “It was a pleasure to have the opportunity to visit Springs Court construction site. Hopefully, this development will boost the local economy and provide a community to elderly residents with access to the support they may need. It is great that a high-quality, leading investor like McCarthy Stone has invested in Cottingham.”

A new report by Homes for Later Living has revealed that retirement housing creates more local economic value and more local jobs than any other type of residential development1.

It is also estimated that those living in a typical retirement development, such as Springs Court, will generate £550,000 of spending per year, with £347,000 going to local shops on the high street1. This will in turn help to support retail jobs, keep amenities open and give a vital boost to the local economy in Cottingham.

Iain Fleming, Construction Director for McCarthy Stone, says:

“This past year has been difficult for everyone, but the high street has been particularly affected by the pandemic. The forthcoming Springs Court Retirement Living Plus development is set to provide a welcome addition to the Cottingham area, as it has been reported that people living in retirement housing are more likely to spend money locally than people of the same age living elsewhere1. This will directly contribute to helping keep local shops and services open in Cottingham – from the butchers to the local café – that often make up the heart of our communities.”

Designed for those aged 70 and over, Springs Court, which is currently under construction, is ideally located in the centre of Cottingham and has been designed to support retirees to maintain an active and independent lifestyle, while at the same time benefiting from a safe and secure environment.

Once complete, Springs Court will offer a choice of 53 one and two-bedroom apartments, with select properties featuring a balcony. The development will include an on-site Bistro serving hot meals, light snacks and refreshments, as well as landscaped gardens fully maintained all year round. Springs Court will also feature a stunning Communal lounge – a great space for homeowners to meet for coffee and to get to know new neighbours. And when friends and family come to stay, a hotel-style guest suite. Flexible support packages will be available to suit individual’s needs, along with 24hr staffing and for peace of mind the latest high-tech security features, such as a camera entry system which allows each apartment to view their visitors at the main entrance

Prices for a one bedroom apartment start from £179,999 and £239,999 for two bedroom apartment. Springs Court will also offer the flexibility of purchase outright, as well as monthly rental and part-buy part-rent options for customers too.

More than nine out of 10 customers would recommend McCarthy Stone to a friend, ensuring it has received the full Five Star award for customer satisfaction from the Home Builders Federation for 16 years’ running. McCarthy Stone is the only UK housebuilder of any size or type to achieve this accolade for 16 consecutive years, which is every year the awards have been run.
