Weel Bridge Set To Close For Essential Structural Works

Repairs are to be carried out to Weel Bridge on Grovehill Road, Beverley from 17 May 2021 which will see the bridge closed to motorists for five days for essential structural works.

The work is due to commence Monday 17 May and it is anticipated to take 5 days.

Due to the nature of these works and the safety of road users, the bridge will be closed to all vehicles for the whole duration.

This is because structural members will need to be removed and replaced, meaning during the works the bridge will have a reduced strength.

Adam Holmes, head of infrastructure and facilities at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said:

“Weel Bridge is the main route for those using the Beverley HWRS and therefore gets plenty of motorists travelling over it on a daily basis.”

“It is important we close the bridge for a short period of time for essential structural works to ensure the bridge can continue to function safely in the future.

“We’d like to thank residents and motorists for their patience while this work is carried out.”

The bridge will remain open for pedestrians and cyclists at all times. ERYC say they apologise in advance for any inconvenience this may cause to residents and businesses.

The Household Waste and Site (HWRS) on Weel Road will continue to operate as usual.

Residents wishing to use the site are asked to travel towards Tickton on the A1035 and follow the diversion signs onto Main Street, Tickton and Weel Road.

The main repair work is to be carried out by the council’s trusted engineering contractor and the council’s Highways team will be using the opportunity to improve the signs on the bridge and other general maintenance.
