Work to improve key traffic signals in Freetown Way will step up a gear next week.

Work will include improving traffic signals and relocating the pedestrian crossing to the east of the junction.

Councillor , portfolio holder for highways at , said:

“The existing signals are in desperate need of an upgrade with constant issues of unreliability particularly in poor weather conditions, and the relocation of the pedestrian crossing will improve safety for everyone including those with disabilities, by allocating extra space to cross and wait.

“To allow the work to take place safely, some traffic management will be in place.

“We apologise in advance and ask that motorists are patient while we carry out these essential upgrades.”

Works have already been ongoing on-site for a number of weeks, with Roche civil engineering carrying out preparatory work in the footways.

And from Monday, the existing signals will be switched off and replaced with temporary lights.
