Major Road Improvements To Hessle Road Complete Ahead Of Schedule

Work to improve Hessle Road has completed ahead of schedule.

The essential work was split into nine phases with a completion date of Sunday 21 February, however, the work finished yesterday, more than two weeks ahead of the programme.

The work forms part of a major investment into key transport routes by the . It included a combination of full reconstruction and structural repairs to sections of each route, resulting in a more structurally sound and reliable road surface.

Councillor , the portfolio holder for economic investment and regeneration, said: “I’m pleased that this work was carried out so efficiently and that the road has reopened to motorists.

“The work was crucial and has received a huge number of positive comments as it is such an improvement.  The council will be starting the footpath refurbishment in April this year.”

Work in Holderness Road and Anlaby Road is still ongoing, with a short-term closure required in Trenton Avenue next week.

From Monday 8 February a five-day closure will be in place at the junction of Trenton Avenue and Anlaby Road.

Traffic management will be in place, with access inbound to Anlaby Park Road north.

Councillor Daren Hale, the portfolio holder for economic investment and regeneration, said: “During the ongoing improvement works our contractor discovered that the existing road structure in this area is extremely poor, therefore more substantial deep rooter foundation repairs will place, which will pass the test of time.

“We ask motorists to bear with us as we aim to improve the road network for their long-term benefit.”

The closure will be in place until Friday 12 February.
