East Riding of Yorkshire Council, as part of its pledge to deliver the commitments set out in the Armed Forces Covenant in the region, is working together with partners to improve the support for the local Armed Forces community.

New web pages now available on the council’s website have been designed around themes including employment, education and skills, families, children and young people, health and wellbeing, housing, money advice, together with general information and support.

Also included are a wide range of information about what support is available and details about how and where members of the Armed Forces community can access it.

The web pages have been created after The East Riding Community Covenant Delivery Group, which consists of representatives from local public, private, military and voluntary sector organisations, has been looking at ways in which they can promote awareness of the Armed Forces Covenant and the support available.

Although the web pages are primarily intended for serving personnel, veterans, reservists and their families, information included will also be useful for those supporting or working with individuals with a military background.

A specific section has also been included with information and resources such as e-learning, research papers and details of available funding programmes.

Councillor David Elvidge, Armed Forces Member Champion for East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said:

“The launch of the new web pages is the culmination of work undertaken by a large number of people in various organisations across the East Riding, in a team effort to bring together and make as easily accessible as possible information about the help that we at the council and our partners can offer to veterans, serving personnel, reservists, their families and their dependents.”

“I would like to be the first person to congratulate all those that helped to make this possible; I know it hasn’t been easy as our recent meetings have had to be virtual and we have had to adapt to new ways of working.”

Awareness of this online resource will continue to be promoted, with posters and leaflets ready to be circulated to council services and partner organisations for distribution across the East Riding, once it is appropriate to do so in line with the pandemic guidance.
