Beverley Art Gallery Looking For More Friends During Lockdown

Beverley Art Gallery is encouraging to consider joining the Friends of Beverley Art Gallery.

In these challenging times of increased social isolation – and especially as the gallery is currently closed.

Beverley Art Gallery curator Helena Cox thinks that joining the Friends could help people feel part of their local community.

While she also feels it may help you keep in touch with others, whilst also helping the gallery itself.

Helena Cox said:

“By joining the Friends, you can help make a real difference to the gallery. Also at the same time, keep in touch with other people with similar interests.”

“During the lockdown, we’ve started a new initiative: an email newsletter that is being sent to Friends every week.”

“The newsletter contains lots of behind-the-scenes news from the gallery. It also explains all the many ways that the gallery remains active even during its closure.”

“The idea is to make sure we all stay connected despite the social distancing situation.”

She adds;

“I love sharing my insights with the Friends, and being in touch with them via emails and social media makes me really appreciate the wonderful community we have. Not even a pandemic can take this shared togetherness away.”

“I’d be delighted to see new members from all walks of life joining us.”

Beverley Art Gallery Friends Help Support Gallery

The aim of The Friends is to encourage more people to enjoy art in all its forms through membership, and participation in the group and its activities.

The Friends support the curators and staff at the Gallery in many ways. Funds raised through membership subscriptions, donations and events help to support exhibitions and related events and contribute towards the conservation of paintings and their frames.

Funds have also helped purchase additions to the collection, including the recent acquisition of two paintings, ‘Mary Elwell in the Studio’ and ‘Artists’ Evening of Appreciation’.

Members of the Friends of Beverley Art Gallery receive regular newsletters and emails, and a range of other benefits in more normal times, and membership costs from just £10 a year.
