Staff from children, young people and family service’s West Early Help team are raising money for charity Bundles of Joy, which will benefit children and families in the area.

16 members of the team will run, walk and cycle individually across different parts of the city and surrounding areas, passing a virtual baton to the next person to complete 43 miles in total. Starting at 7am on Sunday, the team are hoping to complete the relay in eight and a half hours.

Councillor Peter Clark, Portfolio Holder for learning, skills and safeguarding children said:

“It’s a testament to the fabulous staff we have, raising money to help a local charity and benefit those families who need it most. They are giving up their own time to do this and I’m thankful to them all for their efforts, particularly at this very difficult time.”

Louise Stansfield, Early Help Coordinator, organised the relay and she said:

“We are aiming to raise £1000, and we are delighted to be well on our way with £344 already donated.

We are very grateful to anyone who has sponsored us. Bundles of Joy provides clothing, toiletries, nappies, , prams, cots and other essential equipment for disadvantaged families and we know their work is invaluable to families who find themselves in need.”

The relay was planned before the lock-down and the team decided to continue the relay, but with social distancing rules in place. Each member will use WhatsApp to let other members know they have completed their leg of the relay, and the next team member can begin their leg.

Anyone who would like to sponsor the team can do so via their Go Fund Me page.
