East Riding of Yorkshire Council has launched Active East Riding. It is a new website, full of ideas and suggestions for people of all ages during the period when the council’s facilities are closed, allowing people to #stayhomestayactive.

Rather than being a period of doing nothing, the council is hoping that people will discover things to do, to learn from and to take part in whilst at home.

Councillor , leader of East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said:

“It is absolutely essential for our health and wellbeing that we make the most of this enforced time at home, with some people being apart from family and friends.”

“I am delighted that we have been able to put together a variety of ideas for things to do, to appeal to as many people as possible.”

, director of adults, health and customer services, added;

“I hope that these ideas will inspire people to try new things and to reduce the anxiety which inevitably comes at times like these. We will be adding many more ideas as time goes by, so please keep revisiting the site.”

The website has launched with ideas for all ages, including:

• Online Challenges for Under 5s with Tiny Treasures / Sewerby Squirrels
• Enjoy an Online Literature Festival
• Watch a range of videos from East Riding Archives
• Read eBooks and listen to eAudiobooks
• Hear bedtime stories from the children’s library team
• Les Mills On Demand: sessions to enjoy at home
• Learn how to draw cartoons
• Meditations by Mark Williams.

People of all ages are also encouraged to join the new Active East Riding Group on Facebook which is accessible through the main East Riding of Yorkshire Council Facebook page.

The group will be packed full of ideas and activities to do at home. Users are encouraged to interact with the group and post videos and pictures of themselves participating in the challenges and daily activities.

The range of ideas on Active East Riding will greatly increase as time goes on, and it is designed to be an invaluable resource throughout the coming weeks and months.
