More community policing, more special constables, more tasers and an improved 101 service are just a few of the headline promises from the man who wants to be the next Police and Crime Commissioner for Humberside Police.

Craig Ulliott, the Conservative candidate for the role, has also hit out at what he sees as the abject failure by the current Commissioner, , to deliver on his own promises made at the start of his tenure.

Mr Ulliott, a former police officer, has been on an area-wide tour in recent weeks, talking to audiences and individuals to find out what the public want from their Police force. He said: “It’s very evident that people are not happy with Mr Hunter’s performance.

“We have a system whereby police teams are meant to cover areas miles apart and this has led to a rise in crime over the past four years. Mr Hunter has cut police services in many of those areas but still increased the Council Tax burden on our residents year on year. I don’t see how you can ask people for more money but still reduce the service provision as he has.”

He added: “I pledge to bring back genuine community policing with officers patrolling our neighbourhoods.

“With violent crime and assaults on the police increasing, we must arm more officers with tasers, more than the 120 the latest Government grant is paying for. I also believe in the importance of special constables, a role that has been neglected in recent years with numbers falling drastically. I will bring back this essential resource and offer financial incentives to all ‘specials’.

“I will endeavour to cut the waste in the police service that Mr Hunter has created, commencing with moving the PCC team out of the current headquarter at The Lawns, , back into local authority buildings.”

Mr Ulliott also criticised Mr Hunter for failing in his promise to improve the 101 service.

He said;

“This has been an issue for too long, often with call handlers not knowing enough about the geography of all areas of Humberside Police. If elected, I will install north and south bank teams to make sure calls are handled quickly and accurately.

“These are just a few of the key points of my election promise but they are based on my conversations with our residents. Change is needed now. The current Commissioner has failed the public. He has not listened to the residents but has continuously increased taxes.

“Only now, just two months before the election, has he started to make more promises and act on matters I have campaigned for before he even thought of them.  Mr Hunter has run out of ideas and has taken the electorate for granted.”
