The new work-based learning provider, Humberside Training Associates (HTA) is expanding its range of courses after opening the main training facility in the heart of industrial Hull.

HTA’s new base at Facilities House on Main Street, near Wincolmlee, is a high-spec, well-equipped 140sqm training base for its health and safety, electrical, construction skills and offshore wind training courses.

HTA director Callum Young believes they have spotted a clear gap in the market. “This is a fantastic, perfectly located base for us as we start to expand our courses, which are high quality and competitively priced but also not widely available in Hull,” said Mr Young, Director of Education and Learning.

“Everyone who delivers our courses is a fully qualified and experienced secondary and further education teacher with excellent people skills and an abundance of practical and theoretical knowledge about the subjects they are leading on.”

Starting in January 2020, with classes for 16 students or less, electricians will be able to enrol on HTA’s City & Guilds-accredited 18th Edition Electrical Wiring courses.

The company expects to soon follow this in 2020 with the basic risk management Level 1 IOSH-accredited Managing Safety course which is suitable for a range of skillsets from labourers to supervisors.

Further Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) courses will include Health and Safety Awareness (required for the green labourers CSCS card); the Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS) and the SSS Refresher Scheme. In the renewables sector, Humberside Training Associates will provide the offshore wind Client Contractor National Safety Group (CCNSG) Safety Passport course.

Earlier in 2019, the company started delivering Pearson-accredited Level 1 and 2 Numeracy and Literacy and the BTEC Level 2 Taxi training courses to taxi drivers in the region through the Humber Taxi Association at the association’s purpose-built space at the Wilberforce Centre, off Hessle Road, Hull, where the NVQ will also be available shortly.

“Taxi drivers in Hull and East Yorkshire are already able to enrol on those courses, but we have just been able to open up the taxi and functional skills training to drivers in North-east Lincolnshire, in addition to the functional skills training in North Lincolnshire” added Mr Young.

Prior to setting up HTA, Mr Young was an Assistant Principal and Head of Maths, while fellow director Mr David Stuart was a trainer with the , a teacher and 6th Form assessor.
