East Riding Goes Live With CONNECT Partner Problem Solving System

CONNECT Partner, an IT system that allows police and partner organisations to share information on one core system for the first time. It has officially been launched in East Riding.

The IT new system will now allow police in East Riding to provide a bespoke service to proactively manage issues around specific individuals, locations and offenders, in order to test and identify its benefits.

This technological solution, which is a module within the CONNECT platform provided by Northgate Public Services and currently used by both South Yorkshire and , will initially be piloted as a proof of concept by police in East Riding and police and partners in Barnsley, before being rolled out across a number of co-located areas in Humberside and South Yorkshire over the next nine months.

Superintendent Colin McFarlane, Problem Solving Programme Lead, has commented on the platform “The proof of concept will introduce opportunities for us to build on and strengthen our partnership working with local authorities, in order to provide the best possible service to our communities and contribute to reducing demands.

“Through the introduction of this system we will now be able to share information to align and co-ordinate our work more effectively, and identify and introduce prevention and early intervention opportunities for targeted activity.

“Community safety remains at the forefront of all our work and we are committed to exploring all opportunities to assist in embedding and sharing good practice methods of working locally, through the introduction of systems such as CONNECT Partner.”

The CONNECT Partner project was commissioned as a workstream under the Problem Solving and Demand Reduction programme, to improve data sharing and utilise developments in to create sustainable solutions in response to increasing demands across public services.

The Problem Solving and Demand Reduction Programme, which was established in late 2017 following a successful Police Transformation Fund bid and is being run by South Yorkshire Police on behalf of all forces in the UK, is a three-year programme of work that aims to embed problem solving as a core discipline across the police at a local, regional and national level.

In addition to the CONNECT Partner pilot, the Programme, which will conclude in March 2020, is also leading a number of other workstreams to share good practice and entrench problem-solving as a core principle in .

These workstreams include the creation of a national Knowledge Hub platform to share problem-solving best practice and the creation of Learning and Development guidance and standards to embed prevention and problem solving across police and partners, amongst others.
