Humber Street Gallery, a contemporary art gallery has today announced its next programme of exhibitions for spring 2019.

Artists will exhibit their new ambitious work which has been commissioned by Absolutely Cultured. Work will be on display in at the popular Fruit Market gallery.

The programme includes Athena Papadopoulos. She will bring her first major UK gallery exhibition to Humber Street in April. Also, Graham Jones and Richard Houguez’s Cut will feature. While local artist Ella Dorton’s exhibition Journey To The Centre of The Couch (Couches & Other Good Ideas).

Senior Curator at Humber Street Gallery, John Heffernan, said; 

“We’re really excited about this next stage in the gallery’s journey. Also, we are thrilled to be exhibiting Athena Papadopoulos’ inspiring work.”

“Over the coming year, there will be four core exhibitions in Galleries 1 and 2. While there will be seven projects in our renamed Project Space, delivered by early career artists.”

“Our newly revised programme brings together a broad range of exhibitions, projects and also events, encompassing internationally acclaimed artists, local practitioners and ambitious exhibitions.”

Humber Street Gallery Plays An Important Role Within The City

Creative Director and Chief Executive of Absolutely Cultured, Katy Fuller, said;

“It’s a really exciting time for Humber Street Gallery. It has an important role in Hull to help bring world-class contemporary art to the city.”

“We’re delighted to welcome Athena to the gallery and to our city. During frequent visits here, she has uncovered local stories and mythologies. She has infused these into the exhibition’s narrative.”

“This I have no doubt will prove fascinating to both local visitors and those coming to the gallery from further afield.”

Humber Street Gallery is run by Absolutely Cultured. It was initiated as a pop-up within the UK City of Culture 2017 programme. Set across three floors, the transformational space has two Galleries and also a Project Space.

Over the coming year, there will be four core exhibitions and seven projects. There will also be a number of new events for younger visitors, such as Early Bods.
