Hull Man Fined £400 For Dumping Bags Of Rubbish In Melton

A man from Hull has been fined £400 by East Riding of Yorkshire Council for dumping bags of rubbish in Melton, near Brough.

The man admitted adding to a pile a fly-tipping by leaving further bags of waste at the side of the road in Brickyard Lane, Melton. This is a site which is frequently targeted by fly-tippers.

A streetscene enforcement officer from the council investigated the site on 3 July last year, following a report from a member of the public, and found a large amount of rubbish left at the side of the road.

Among the pile of rubbish were three bags of waste, which the officer later traced back to the Hull man.

The man admitted he had fly-tipped the bags and was issued with a fixed penalty notice for £400.

An officer was told by the man that the rubbish was not his, but he had found the bags in the back of a van he had bought and got rid of them at the site in Melton.

Paul Tripp, head of streetscene services at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “This site in Melton is frequently blighted by fly-tipping and our officers are monitoring the area.

“We would urge the public to let the council know if they see anyone fly-tipping or anything that may assist our investigations.

“Any evidence we find will be used to take further action.”

The council continues to remind residents that they are responsible for disposing of their own waste properly and legally – by using their bins at home, using their local household waste recycling site, or hiring a registered waste carrier to take it away.

Anyone caught dumping rubbish or fly-tipping could be ordered to pay a £400 fixed penalty notice but, if unpaid, the issue will be taken to court where they could face an unlimited fine or even imprisonment.
