Thanks Public After Raising Over £600 In Donations

Hull Samaritans have expressed their gratitude to shoppers in Beverley after they raised over £600 in donations.

Organised by Anthony Rheinberg, the Hull Samaritans were in Beverley on 2 December and were delighted with the donations received.

Speaking to .net Anthony said;

“On behalf of the Hull Samaritans, I would like to thank everyone who was kind enough to make a donation. Also, I would like to thank those who volunteered to ensure this fundraiser took place at no cost to the charity.”

“In total, we raised £650.28 money that will be used to support the work the Samaritans undertake in the local area.”

“As a charity, our goal is to prevent people from committing suicide. We do this by providing a 24/7 service all year round. Anyone who is feeling down and alone can call, email or text us.”

Anthony says that the Christmas period is always busy for the Samaritans, he said;

“While we help people all year round the festive period often leads to more people reaching out to us. This can be due to a number of reasons as people feel isolated if they are spending Christmas Day on their own.”

Hull Samaritans Say Suicide Rates Are Falling Though More Young People Are Taking Their Own Life

Statics show that men are more likely than women to call the charity. While they also say more young people reach out to them too.

The Samaritans are the only organisation in the country to keep data on the number of people who take their own lives.

In the UK and Republic of Ireland, the charity says 6,213 people committed suicide in 2017. Of those who took their own life men aged 45-49 were top of those findings.

While the figures are still high the Samaritans say that suicide rates in the UK have fallen. They also say that male suicide rates are at the lowest level in 30 years.

However, the charity does say that they have seen an increase in the number of young people who are committing suicide.
