Bat Night At Sewerby Hall And Gardens

On Wednesday, 22 August, Geoff Wilson of the East Yorkshire Bat group, along with the education team at Sewerby Hall and Gardens, will be leading a bat walk through Sewerby Park.

This is a great opportunity to learn more about these night -time residents of Sewerby Park, from Geoff, the local expert.

The walk has been very successful in the past with a lot of activity from the bats, and hopes are high that this year the new bat boxes, installed by Geoff and his team in the gardens, will mean that there are even more bats to see and hear.

The walk, which is free of charge, will start at 9pm in the main Sewerby Hall and Gardens car park (which will be open from 8.45pm) and will last approximately 1½ hours. It will finish back at the car park.

Participants should dress appropriately for the weather conditions on the night, and should also note that all buildings on the site, including toilets, will be closed.

Staff at Sewerby Hall and Gardens recently found two bats in the grounds which were suffering from dehydration. They were cared for in the Zoo’s sick bay and then taken away by Geoff Wilson of the East Riding Bat Group, who was able to release them in the wild.
