St Mary’s Celebrates Ofsted Result and Appointment Of New Headteacher

There are celebrations at St Mary’s CE Primary School in Beverley after the school received a ‘Good’ rating in its recent Ofsted inspection. The school also received an outstanding grading for Personal development, behaviour and welfare.

Inspectors praised the Acting Headteacher, Laura Wallis, for her strong leadership. “Since taking on this role, she has revitalised the ethos of the school and rapidly improved teaching and learning,” inspectors said.

Laura Wallis has been appointed as the permanent Headteacher at St Mary’s following a year as Acting Headteacher at the school.

She has taught within East Riding schools for fifteen years and has been an Assistant Headteacher at the school since 2011.

In a letter to parents published on the school website, Mrs Wallis thanked parents for the very strong support they give to the school.

In the report, Ofsted inspectors judged the quality of teaching to be good and improving, noting that across all year groups, pupils are making good progress in reading, writing and mathematics. Pupils’ behaviour in lessons was described as excellent. Inspectors said that “Pupils are confident and self-assured learners and have a heightened sense of individual responsibility for their age.”

Laura Wallis has said that the school is delighted with the outcome of the inspection.

“It was particularly pleasing that the inspectors highlighted areas of strength which are central to our school ethos such as our ‘nurturing culture’ and ‘rich curriculum.’

“As a school, we are totally committed to providing all children with the best possible education and care and it is fantastic that the efforts and achievements of the whole school community have been recognised.”

“It is an exciting time for the school. Our SATS results have increased significantly this year and we are thrilled with what our Year 6 children have achieved this summer.”

“We look forward to continuing to build on the achievements of this year when we begin the new academic year in September,” she added.
