Mayor Urges People To Join Him And Celebrate All They Have In Common

Town Council and St Mary’s Church are supporting the nationwide ‘Great Get Together’ event aimed at promoting the community to come together to celebrate.

The Great Get Together was set up in memory of the MP Jo Cox, who was killed in June 2016 by an extremist while holding a street surgery in her constituency.

Taking place on Saturday 23 June from 11AM to 4PM, both the Town Council and St Mary’s Church are inviting residents to join them for their first joint ‘Great Get Together’.

Beverley’s event has been inspired by the White Rabbit of St Mary’s Church Saturday’s proceedings will take on an Alice in wonderland Mad Hatter Tea Party theme.

, Cllr and Reverend Becky Lumley said;

‘’We’re inviting people to get together with their neighbours to share food and celebrate all that we hold in common.”

“The Pop Up Picnic venue will be in Coronation Gardens and St Marys Church in North Bar Within. We are encouraging families to come and enjoy this community day.”

“There will be lots of local entertainment on offer, so pack up your picnic and come down and enjoy the day.”

This year’s event follows on from last year when the event staged in Coronation Gardens proved to be a big hit with people of all ages.

The Great Get Together Community Alice in Wonderland, Mad Hatters Pop Up Picnic Tea Party is free to attend. Everyone is welcome to be part of it and just need to bring a picnic and join in.

Entertainment on the day will include Story Telling from the Mad Hatter, Music from Dez & Cathy Allenby of Strawberry Moon, Magic and Balloons from Magic Merlin, Face Painting, Children’s Craft Activities, Bouncy Castle, Craft Stall, Bell Tour/Roof/Priest Room visits, Tea & Cakes and much more!
