There are plenty of pranks and a ton of fun at East Riding Libraries this summer – it’s Mischief Makers, the Summer Reading Challenge 2018, in association with the Reading Agency!

The Summer Reading Challenge will be a chance to read library books over the summer holidays, join in with fun themed weekly activity sessions, collect special stickers and explore the map of Beanotown to find clues, but– Dennis the Menace is usually up to all kinds of mischief. He’ll make sure some of those stickers are extra stinky!

The Challenge encourages children aged 4 to 11 to read during the long summer holiday; it’s completely free and available throughout the East Riding.

The Summer Reading Challenge is run very successfully in the East Riding each year, with the area achieving one of the highest completion rates in the country.

“Children’s reading can ‘dip’ during the summer holidays if they don’t have regular access to books and encouragement to read for pleasure. The annual Summer Reading Challenge helps get three quarters of a million children into libraries each year to keep up their reading skills and confidence. Because everything changes when we read.” (The Reading Agency)

Councillor , portfolio holder for leisure, tourism and culture, said:

“Children are encouraged to read at least six library books. They can be any books they like – novels, fact books, joke books, e-books or audio books, they all count – and your local library will have staff on hand to help children choose books they will really enjoy.”

Visit any East Riding Library to sign up. Places are limited, so early booking is recommended for this fun, free summer holiday activity.
