HER Breast Friend Win Beverley Building Society Charity Of The Month

Members of the Beverley Building Society have named HER Breast Friend as their charity of the month for March.

Beverley Building Society’s Members voted for HER Breast Friend, a charity that support cancer sufferers, to win the £250 prize money.

Joanne Mennell, Chair of HER Breast Friend visited the Saturday Market branch to receive the prize money. Explaining more about the work HER Breast Friend do she said;

“We are a local breast cancer charity who support members of the local community in Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire that have breast cancer.”  

“As a charity something we do is to have a wig bank. One of the things you go through when being treated for breast cancer is you lose your hair.”

“Wigs are very expensive to buy and you obviously only lose your hair for a short period of time. So we offer a wig bank so ladies can come to us and get fitted with a wig to use while they are going through treatment.”

“Another service we offer is a therapy centre where ladies undergoing treatment can visit and treat themselves to things like a massage. All of this is funded through donations.”

Joanne says that in our region current figures show that one in eight women in the area will be diagnosed with breast cancer. The charity facilitate a number of women and is able to offer treatments thanks to voluntary therapists.

Thanking the members of Beverley Building Society and their team, Joanne said;

“We are really grateful, all donations make a massive difference. It is really nice that locally we get recognised and also recognised by a local building society.”

“We so grateful for the support of their members and staff and everyone else concerned for building up the red counters by voting for us.”
