The ArtWaves Festival has a growing outreach and community project as part of the festival offerings, taking over from Monday 7th to Sunday 13th May 2018.

Commissioned BBC and The Eden Project artist, Mellissa Fisher is leading on an interactive installation, consisting of 100 faces of men and women to symbolise the 100 year anniversary since women were granted the right to vote.

These will be assembled in a growing exhibit alongside thoughts on the way women are seen today. Participants are invited to come along and have their faces cast, giving an identity to the growing installation of faces.

Mellissa said, “I’m really looking forward to engaging with everyone who attends this festival, speaking about the importance of equality and giving the public an identity as well as a voice.”

The casting sessions for the 100 Faces installation will take place on Friday 11th – Sunday 13th May 2018 at Bridlington Spa.

Local art group, Bridlington Art Society have been commissioned by ArtWaves to create a series of large jigsaws that will be assembled at the festival alongside the opportunity for others to contribute their very own ‘Piece of the East Riding’.

The festival is hosting a specially tailored schools day, inviting primary and secondary schools from across the region to attend a creative filled day prior to the main weekend.

Lauren Frost, Festival Director said, “The response we have had from schools has once again been fantastic. A key aim of the festival is to provide opportunities for young to be involved in visual art, the schools offering is imperative for that. The young people attending will participate in a number of activities such as; street art, air clay, messy activities and installation creation. It’s a great opportunity and one we are very pleased to be able to offer”

The official festival programme is now available online and Bridlington Spa.
