A new exhibition is currently running at THECREATIVELAB in the Flemingate Centre in Beverley featuring over 140 paintings by local artist and ceramicist, .

Yorkshire based artist and ceramicist, Meg Burkill, along with the assistance of Beverley’s creative retail social enterprise THECREATIVELAB, is presenting a retrospective exhibition of all her paintings at the Flemingate Shopping Centre in Beverley.

Meg has been painting since 2008 and she produces paintings in acrylic on canvas covering a wide variety of subject matter which have featured at several galleries and exhibitions throughout the area.

The exhibition came about when Meg was approached by Mikey Mathieson & Chris Kidd of THECREATIVELAB. The duo, having already run their successful social enterprise retail space for local creative individuals and small businesses for a year now, had been offered the temporary usage of a currently vacant space to add to the vibrancy of the current Flemingate Centre.

Chris Kidd said “It is amazing that support for local creative work is so high and, having worked with Meg as a ceramicist in our shop since our inception, we felt it was an amazing opportunity to assist her to take these exceptional works of art out of storage and get them on display in front of the general public”

Mikey Mathieson added “The launch night was a wonderful event and it was great to see so much support from the local community. Meg is an extremely talented artist and the reaction by the public to her work is continuing to prove that.”

Of her work in the retrospective, Meg said:

“I’m simply thrilled with how the exhibition is going and how the launch night was received. It is great to see all my existing work hung together in one space.

Although the work changes through the years there are constant threads running through :– Bold shapes, a strong colourful palette, light and shadow, pattern, movement and humour. I see now how the earlier paintings where about challenging and proving myself.

I always paint in the present as I like to think I am capturing memories for the future. A little bit like a photo snap-shot but a lot more fun!”

Being Bold – A Retrospective Exhibition is open daily from 10am-5pm (4pm on Sundays) and runs until 29th April 2018 at THECREATIVELAB, Flemingate Shopping Centre, Beverley.
