Hull Children’s University Super Grateful After Being Named Charity of the Month

Hull Children’s University has been named as the Beverley Building Society Charity of the Month for January.

Members of the Society voted for the charity which delivers life changing experiences for disadvantaged youngsters in Hull and the East Riding.

Rose James, a Partnership Manager at the Hull Children’s University explained more about the charity and the work they do in the community, she said;

“Hull Children’s University aim to raise the aspirations of children living in areas of depravation by providing them experiences they otherwise would not have.”

“Some of the children we work with have never left Hull, never left their estates. We take them to London for day and they get to visit places like Parliament.”

“We also do sleepovers. They can sleep under the dinosaurs in the Natural History Museum and we do a sleepover on HMS Belfast called Kip of a Ship.”

“When they go on these trips to London it is often their first time on a train and their first time on tube. In London they get to do all the tourist things. Most of all we just want them to see what is out there.”

“Something else we do is go into the local BBC. The children have a go on the cameras, have a go at reading the news and also have a go on the radio. This type of trip helps to open their eyes to different skills.”

Expressing her thanks that the Hull Children’s University were named as the Beverley Building Society charity of the month Rose said;

“We are super grateful that Beverley Building Society have chosen to support us as their Charity of the Month and we are really grateful to their members for voting for us.”

“This money will go to support local children and it really will make a difference to work that we do.”
