GCSE Success For Schools In The East Riding

East Riding secondary schools are again celebrating their success in the GCSE league tables announced today by the Department for Education.

East Riding schools are ranked eighth in the Yorkshire and Humber region for Progress 8, the main measure by which schools are now judged following the introduction of new accountability measures.

This measure judges schools by the average progress made by students from their starting point at secondary school to the end of year 11, in eight GCSE subjects.

The Progress 8 measure in the East Riding is one of the best in the north of England and is in line with the national average. The East Riding is ranked 54th out of 150 English local authorities.

Councillor Julie Abraham, portfolio holder for children, young people and education, said:

“We are delighted with the progress that many East Riding schools have brought about this year. This is down to the hard work of young people and their families, supported by dedicated school staff.

“East Riding of Yorkshire Council is committed to improving East Riding schools until we have some of the best in the country. The results have been achieved against a backdrop of the continued very low level of funding for East Riding schools from the Department for Education.

“These excellent GCSE results are underpinned by many outstanding stories of hard work and application as well as committed teaching and support. We look forward to further improving Ofsted inspection outcomes for our schools, building on the foundation of these successful results.
