Local travel consultant, Karl Douglas says has picked out what he thinks will be some of the most popular destinations for holiday makers this year.

In 2017 Brits spent almost £2.5 billion on overseas trips visiting destinations like Spain, Mexico and the United States of America.

With the uncertainty over Brexit, research shows that more Brits are turning to more niche locations to get the most value for their money.

Explaining more about the choices out there, Karl picks out some of the locations he thinks will be popular for 2018.

Karl said;

“Winter sun Places like the canaries are ever popular, however, destinations like Cape Verde, the Gambian coast and further afield places like the less commercialised parts of Thailand, Cambodia, and even Australia. Skiing is also extremely popular and continues to grow year after year.”

“For spring and summer sun, the world really is your oyster. There are not many places you can’t get to now. Southern Europe remains popular. Turkey is starting to make a comeback after a difficult few years, as is Greece & Cyprus. Further afield the US continues to be popular, with so much choice.”

“The Carribean will make a comeback after the storms last year with new/ refurbished resorts, although the southern Carribean was largely untouched.”

“Cruising continues to grow in popularity, with new ships being launched every year. River cruising especially so, with 7 new ships being launched this year for this segment alone.”

“An area that is also growing in popularity, is adventure holidays, particularly eco-. There are a number of operators who specialise in tourism that respects the local environment and has also been helped by the BBC series, The Blue Planet.”

“Popular destinations include; African safaris, South American tours to Machu Picchu and the Galapagos Islands. We have suppliers where 63% of the cost of the tour goes into the local economy.”

As a travel consultant, Karl uses his knowledge to source the perfect location and deal for people wishing to take a break.

He said;

“With just a short initial conversation, we can start to draw up proposals that we can refine in partnership with our client. We also make sure the fine details are taken care of, such as connections and transfers.”

“Being ABTA members and ATOL protected means that even on the odd occasion something does go wrong, we will get it resolved, often before the client is even aware. We take great pride in ensuring every trip is an inspiring journey from the first conversation.”
