has announced that its hugely popular Active Coast programme will return in 2018.

Launched at Easter 2017, the council’s Active Coast programme provided over 100 organised events and activities, and involved over 14,000 participants.

Councillor , portfolio holder for leisure, culture and tourism, said:

“I am very proud of the huge success and impact that Active Coast enjoyed in 2017, and delighted that we can build upon that success and expand it further this year. Active Coast is genuinely making people of all ages and abilities fitter and healthier, and showing off our East Riding coastline at the same time.”

An exciting fun filled programme celebrating sport and culture on the East Yorkshire coast is planned for Easter and Summer 2018, including Have A Field Days, the Kite Festival, All Ride open days and sessions at Sewerby Hall and Gardens. This year will also see the return of Clip ‘n Climb, giant inflatables and much more.

2018 will continue many popular beach sports and will include exciting events such as the Beach Sports Festival, Pro Tour and East Coast Beach Soccer, working with partners Yorkshire Series and East Coast Beach Soccer. There will also be a range of family fun beach days and regular coaching sessions, and beach tennis will be introduced to the area.

After last year’s successful sand and stone family workshops, there will be regular return visits from Responsible Fishing UK, providing plenty of creative fun on the beach.

The expanded coastal explorer programme will feature partner events with Countryside Access and Yorkshire Wildlife Trust to celebrate stunning outdoor coastal spaces, including Danes Dyke hike and firelight, cliffs and caves, rockpooling, a Countryfile Children in Need Ramble event in October, and weekly summer events.

Cover the Coast will be a series of 10 circular walks on the first Friday of every month and will cover the whole East Yorkshire coast in manageable sections.
