has hit out at the Conservative Party accusing them of shooting their own messenger.

Mr. Manus made the comments after the government confirmed there would be no review into the closure and changes to how some hospitals in the region operate on their part.

MP has led a high profile campaign that saw him hold rally’s including at the Beverley Community Hospital to try and save the Minor Injuries Units, one that it would appear has failed.

Mr. Stuart released a statement after learning the East Riding of Yorkshire Clinical Commissioning Group would have the final say as the government refused to intervene.

He said;

“I am proud to have led my constituents in this campaign, and am deeply disappointed that we did not persuade the Independent Reconfiguration Panel that the CCG should be forced to think again.”

“I believe the CCG’s decisions are based on flawed modelling, and on a sub-standard public consultation.”

His views however are not shared by the local Labour Party who say the decision was not ‘unexpected’ given the financial crisis in the NHS.

Beverley Labour’s George McManus, commenting on the news said;

“Sadly the latest decisions were not unexpected. The NHS is facing severe financial pressures due to inadequate funding from ’s government.”

“The Tories set CCGs up in order to take the flak for unpopular decisions. Our local MPs are shooting their own messenger.”

“The situation will only be improved when we have a Labour government. The NHS will never be safe in Tory hands.”

NHS bosses have said they need £4bn in additional funding per year if they are to bridge the gap, however just a fraction of that, £2.8bn over three years was allocated in the recent Autumn Budget.

Critics say the government are putting public services at risk and that they are spending more on Brexit than health care.
