Staff at East Riding Archives and Local Studies based at the in Beverley are celebrating the news that the service has been awarded Accredited Status.

Accredited Archive Services ensure the long-term collection, preservation and accessibility of the country’s archive heritage. Accreditation is the UK quality standard which recognises good performance in all areas of the delivery of archive services.

Achieving accredited status shows that East Riding Archives has met clearly defined national standards relating to management and resourcing; the care of its unique collections; and what the service offers to its entire range of users.

The Accreditation Panel from The National Archives which made the award “congratulated the service on working well across the Accreditation standard and on its level of achievement throughout. This strong performance represented a good service to the people of the East Riding, and a significant investment in their collections.

They added: “Many congratulations on achieving this national standard, and in delivering a service which works effectively in all areas.”

Councillor Richard Burton, portfolio holder for leisure, and culture, said:

“This is excellent news for both the staff and customers of East Riding Archives and Local Studies, and I would like to congratulate everybody involved in the hard work needed to achieve this new accreditation.

“I look forward to this popular service continuing to go from strength to strength in the East Riding.”
East Riding Archives and Local Studies gives everyone access to the extensive and unique archives collection based at the Treasure House, or to go online and see the online catalogue of the documents and books held in the East Riding collections at any time.

The service also offers the chance to research family history and local history, and organises regular events. East Riding Archives also offers vintage prints and gifts ordering online and shares historic photographs at www.flikr.com/photos/erarchives.
