Olympic Hero Pledges Support To Local Travel Franchise Holder

Karl Douglas has been a Inspiring Journeys franchisee of Not Just Travel for one year, and it is because of their indisputable support that he says the business has grown and gone from strength to strength.

Daley Thompson CBE said;

Daley Thompson won gold at the in 1980 and 1984 and is widely regarded as greatest ‘all round athlete’ ever produced by the United Kingdom.

Some 35 years on Thompson is 5th, and the only Brit in the list of the top 25 decathlon athletes of all time – a testament to a great man who flew the flag for the nation at the highest sporting levels.

Thompson was a pioneer of his time and at time highly controversial. After he won gold at the Los Angeles Olympics in 1984, he performed a lap of honour in a shirt bearing the slogan: ‘Is the world’s 2nd greatest athlete gay?’ – A gesture directed at the American Carl Lewis.

In 1985 Daley Thompson was the inspiration behind the hugely popular button bashing video game ‘Daley Thompson’s Decathlon’ release on ZX Spectrum, Amstrad CPC 464  and Commodore 64.

Produced by the software company Ocean – the game gave people all over the world a chance to step into the shoes of one of the worlds biggest athletes and go for gold in the comfort of their own homes.
