Extended Closure Period For The Bridge At Rawcliffe Bridge

East Riding of Yorkshire Council has announced that the current temporary closure of the bridge over the Dutch River at Rawcliffe Bridge has had to be extended.

It had been intended to reopen the road next Monday 20 November, but the road over the bridge will now be closed for a further four weeks, and is now scheduled to reopen on Monday, 18 December.

The road is currently closed for specialist inspection works. The inspection has revealed a number of public safety issues which must be addressed before the road can be reopened.

Mike Ball, the council’s principal engineer, said:

“Following the planned programme of inspection works on the bridge, we are now putting together a schedule of work that will follow on immediately after the inspection has been completed. Unfortunately, this work can only be undertaken by our contractor in a safe manner under a road closure lasting a further four weeks.

“We do apologise for the inconvenience that this extended closure will cause, but would like to reassure motorists that the works are essential to help to ensure the long term future of the bridge.”

During the extended closure, pedestrians and cyclists will still be able to use the bridge, although cyclists will have to dismount.

All road vehicles will have to continue to follow the signed diversion route.

Local businesses will remain open as usual during the closure and can continue to be accessed via the diversion route.

East Yorkshire Motor Services route number 88 will continue to run, but will follow the diversion route during this period. A shuttle bus will also continue for the part of the journey between Rawcliffe and Rawcliffe Bridge.
